The Association of Campus Journalist Lagos State University (ACJ-LASU) holds it's first E-magazine and Constitution launch since it's inception virtually on Zoom on Saturday 3rd of October 2020
The Association who has relentlessly worked for several months for the success of their first E-magazine, with the name "The Campus Drone" officially launched after months of consultations with different stakeholders.
The virtual event was graced by respectable people both from the institution and other recognized association, such as Dr Tunde Akanni (a senior Lecturer in LASU), Ibrahim Adeyemi (President, National Union of Campus Journalist), Ajala Samuel (National Secretary, NUCJ), Hassan Abdulsalam, (Southwest coordinator, NUCJ), Adele Yusuf Olatunji(Buoyant) President-Elect of the National Association of Nigeria Campus Editors (NANCE), Onipede Oluwadarasimi, an alumus of the Association and many others. The Lagos State University's youngest Lecturer, Mr Arowolo Olasunkanmi gave an inspiring charge, urging the team to keep the fire burning.
While notable absentees due to one reason or the other include Dr Jide Jimoh, HOD, Lagos State University Department of Journalism, who sent in his speech and Adejumo Kabir of the Premium Times.
The opening remarks which was given by the NUCJ president, Mr. Adeyemi Ibrahim, of the Business day, was precise and direct. He appraised the team's effort. This was immediately followed by Dr Akanni, (Premium Times Board of Directors member) encouraging the students to even do more in cultivating the habit of true journalism, without forgeting to wave the good name of the school. Dr Akanni cited various examples using the political space to buttress his points, but due to time, the program was moved to the next stage of which Arowolo, took the barton and also commended the teams effort. In his words, he said, "This is something of which we had tried for a long time, but our efforts were frustrated then by the members, thus it is a joyful thing that ACJ-LASU, finally has come up with a a template others could follow."
The constitution and the Magazine was officially unveiled by the President of the Association, Kareem Itunu Azeez, commending the efforts of the team, amidst this torrid times, and also urging all editors to do even more for the association.
The Association's initiative and efforts was commended greatly by everyone, Dr Tunde Akanni further adviced "the Association, to strive and get visibility both locally and internationally and they should also try to get coverage on environmental issues, such as lack of classroom, infrastructures in the institution and also on the different unions available on campus."
The event was brought to an end, after the closing remarks by the Moderator of the day, Mr Hafiz, a recent graduate of the Lagos State University,
