Education known to most is the key to success, but that can be argued because in this morden era we have poor literates ( university graduates) and wealthy illitrates( secondary school dropouts). In this county alone, we have 174 universities ( 43 federal, 52 State, 79 private universities).
Being a student in Nigeria is a very cumbersome task to achieve but being a student of Lagos State University (LASU) is very terrifying and any lasuite will agree to this. The strict dressing rules, 8- 10 classes, the infamous Lasu sun, lack of good hostels near the school, lecturers giving impromptu test, inconsiderate fixing of classes by lecturers.
The average lasuite will face all of the mentioned above and more, it can be safe to say Lasu is very tasking. Having a CGPA of over 3.00 and still not relaxed because Lasu doesn't give you time to relax and if you do relax, you'll have yourself to blame during exam.
Exam is another source of worry for lasuites. Students start preparing for exams, buying up to 5 materials and textbooks for a course and must make sure to read everything cause you never can tell where questions will be set, coming to school for night reading just so you can study enough to get a good grade when results come out. There's a saying among lasuites ''Lasu sweet but na exam spoil am". The meaning is that being a student of the Lagos State University has its perks but exams override those perks.
After exam is result period, the period of fainting students, period where students knock on lecturers office to beg, period where you know your fate if you'll still be a student or write Jamb the following year. The period will bring happiness for some especially the 'scholars' and will bring heartache and sadness for others.
Funmilayo is a student of Lasu and she gave her own opinion about the hardship she faces as a lasuite. " I don't like the fact that almost everything in school has to be bought. Things like textbooks and the rest. The way lecturers choose lecture date inconsiderately, Stress, Heat, Congested classes, Inability to keep up with scheduled time for lectures" she said. As a girl she complained about being ' pressurised' by boys to date and go for parties.
Ex lasuite Funke also gave her own opinion about the hardship she faced when she was a lasuite. She graduated from the school in 2016 and she was glad to share her opinion on the matter. "Having to go to another faculty for a course, after trekking no were to seat, To sign course form takes forever, Shuttle drivers not having change, Not enough sockets to charge our phones".
Having to face all that as a lasuite can make you just decide to pack your bags and leave the school to enroll for admission in another school. Lasuites don't even advice their friends to choose Lasu as a preferred institution because they know how hard it can be but despite all the hardship, We are Lasu and we're proud!.
